Apple blocked Telegram update due to new animated emojis
The last Telegram update appeared on iOS on 12 August this year. And a few days earlier, the company's CEO Pavel Durov said that Apple was preventing the update from being released "without explanation". Durov has now explained that Apple delayed the update because it wanted to remove a certain emoji feature.
"Following extensive media coverage of my previous post, Apple responded to us with a demand to soften our pending Telegram update by removing Telemoji - better vector animated versions of the standard emoticons," the Telegram chief said.
According to Durov, this is an unwise move on Apple's part, as Telemoji would bring a whole new dimension to its low-resolution static emoticons and greatly enrich their ecosystem. After removing the iOS-themed pack, Apple has approved the update, which is now available on the Telegram App Store page.
According to The Verge journalists, Apple wanted to remove Telemoji because another company had changed its design. Perhaps the Cupertino-based company is planning to do something similar itself and doesn't want anyone else to take the lead in this decision.
